Longfield and New Barn Parish Council was formed in 1987 after a boundary change which brought the parish into the Borough of Dartford. The population is around 5,000 and is represented by twelve parish Councillors. The area consists of a thriving Village with its own supermarket and approximately thirty other retail shops. The Village has its fair share of hot food takeaways, two public houses and a railway station with fast links into Victoria Station. Local children attend the Langafel Primary School, and Longfield Academy School and at the Woodview Campus site, The Phoenix Centre, Rowhill School and a special hospital school for young children. The New Barn area of the parish is designated in the local plan as an area of Special Residential Character and is where the majority of the population lives.
Longfield village has moved on with the times over the years and may appear slightly more urban than it did 40 years ago in order to meet the demands of the local residents, fundamentally though the village is still the heart of the parish providing a well supported shopping area. Partnered with quality schools, excellent transport links, quality shopping centers’ and beautiful countryside nearby, Longfield still remains a premium place to work and live.
